Born to parents Tina and David VanderWaal, Grace VanderWaal grew up to become a singer and actress. Her father David VanderWaal was Dutch. Her family shifted to Suffern, New York when his father, in 2007, became the Vice President of Marketing at LG Electronics.
Grace later shifted to South Carolina. She is the youngest child of her parents after her elder sister and brother. She was home-schooled until 6th, past which she was enrolled online for 7th Later, she attended Public School part-time.
VanderWaal started singing and writing songs at the age of three. In her preteen days, she was inspired by movies and imagined what the character would be feeling. While doing so, her thought always was “What it would be like if I were them and wrote a song”.
